Why we built our own

Almost everything GPS ships for clients is under NDA. The write-ups on this page are anonymised for a reason — but anonymised proof only goes so far. PoleView is the other kind of proof: a product of ours, in public, with our name on it, that anyone can put on a headset and judge.

It started as an itch rather than a strategy. Television shows a motorsport race one car at a time — whichever story the director picks. The view we wanted didn't exist: the entire field, in true position, watchable from anywhere. So we built it.

The cut

The defining decisions were all about what PoleView is not.

It's not video and it's not a game. PoleView is a true 3D reconstruction from position data: every car in the field placed on a reconstructed circuit, lap by lap, as a holographic diorama on the viewer's table. Cars are deliberately generic — colour and number only — so it stays independent of every series, team, and sanctioning body. That neutrality isn't timidity; it's the product decision that lets a free fan tool live.

It also owns nothing of yours. The position data comes from a live timing source the viewer already runs on their own PC; PoleView rebuilds it on-headset, over the viewer's own WiFi. Video windows in the command centre show feeds the viewer brings. Nothing is supplied, proxied, or redistributed, and nothing touches a server of ours — there aren't any.

The build

PoleView is a standalone app for Meta Quest 3 and 3S — all rendering happens on the headset. The reconstruction work is the technically interesting part, and the numbers held up: a track centreline fitted purely from the cars' own GPS agreed with the real circuit to within roughly one percent; speed derived from the reconstruction lands within one percent of the source feed; oval track geometry validated to within half a percent of published lengths. A working replay of real cars has been demonstrated from a published sample dataset. Around the diorama, a multi-window command centre lets the viewer arrange video feeds and data panels however their race day works.

The launch machinery got the same treatment as a client build: a waitlist site with a press kit, graceful fallbacks for every asset that hasn't landed yet, no third-party trackers by default, and a series vote that turns the audience into the roadmap.

PoleView is one independent developer shipping a real-time 3D product on standalone hardware — using exactly the system we sell: ruthless scope discipline, AI-native delivery, and visible slices shipped in public. The same system that puts a client MVP on their stack in two to three weeks.
